Tai M. Chung Sungkyunkwan University | Professor
Prof. Chung received a Ph.D. from Purdue University in Computer Engineering. From 1987, he worked at BBN Labs as a Scientist in the Internet Management group and has studied efficient and reliable internet platforms, mobile networks, and security for 30 years.
Since 2017, he has researched and developed a service platform for digital therapeutics to care and alleviate mental illness(ADHD, Depression) based on virtual reality, to detect diabetic foot problems, and detect/classify abnormal skin problems using IoT technology.
He founded Hippo T&C Inc. to deliver his research results to the market with a platform providing DTx services such as ADHD care, depression management, child obesity control, and diabetic foot detection.
He published more than 500 peer-reviewed research papers, 9 technical books, and 30 patents for 30 years.
Another Revolution made by AI : Digital Therapies that lead to changes in Medical Services
The Digital Therapeutics market rapidly grows from 2017 when FDA approved ReSet which cares about drug addiction using the software. Experts cautiously anticipate that Digital Therapeutics which diagnose and treat illness with modern ICT technologies(AI, IoT, SW, etc.) would change the medical care paradigm in an intact manner at an inexpensive cost.
Consulting companies expect that the digital therapeutics market will grow up to 9.4 billion US dollars by 2025. The digital therapeutics market is now led by image analysis solutions and cognitive-based services. In particular, EndeavorRx™ by Akill was approved by the FDA this year, and many others are under clinical trials. A few Korean companies are also interested in and developing Digital therapeutics, but there are obstacles in practice due to too much regulation(privacy protection & remote medical services).
In this session, I will introduce digital therapeutics and the current market. The underlying regulations which disturb the digital therapeutics market will be presented with the proposals to resolve the problems. A platform-based service model to provide the services more efficiently and reliably will be also proposed.
